I mean, with her past she had to have some interesting character motivations. I found the heroine to be really interesting and liked her kind-of mad, spacey genius qualities. She’s canny, resourceful and has a good head for business.
When you call on the God of Amd, you have to scrape down and give up everything, or you don’t get his attention. I felt that Jess had spymasher issues because of her past and it should fit, but sometimes too much denial and angst between the two main characters can be a bit too much.
I was grimacing though all of that.

The good news is, The Spymaster’s Lady wasn’t ‘beginner’s luck’. The writing was lovely and evocative, but the story itself just was not compelling for me and I never connected to the hero or heroine, both of whom got upstaged by secondary characters like Eunice the hero’s badass auntClaudia the bourrne acerbic cousinand Adrian Hawkhurst who has had spymastwr best set-up of any “story forthcoming” hero I’ve encountered so far.
