Ali rated it liked it Jul 31, There was not enough detail to make some epochs distinct from others. Saunders tries to answer a few questions in the book but his arguments are very weak. One of the sects was the Alid, which was suppressed in AD on the orders of Mutawakkil.
The Author made his thoughts with christian terms which might change the whole truth. It is heavy on the political, engaging religion mainly as ideas and sects encroach on politics. Nevertheless, the author tries to piece together a coherent picture through some logical inferences.
